These materials that I am requesting will help all of my students succeed. While these materials do not necessarily focus on the academic portion of learning, they will attend and help to regulate emotional learning. Many of my students have special needs and encounter many challenges throughout the day. Not only do the 6th graders, with and without disabilities, that I work with have to cope with the daily stressors of being a pre-teen and transitioning to middle school, but many of them also have baggage from home that follows them. Unfortunately on a 50 minute bell schedule, there is not always time to address each students' individual social and emotional needs. These items, that I am requesting, will help with just that. These items will help students to manage their stress in a healthy way, deescalate faster and efficiently, as well as help to take their mind off of their problems. Fidgeting with these sensory items will also help my students to focus on the task at hand and get more out of the academic portion of instruction.
