Adapted books are books that have been modified to be more accessible and easier to understand. These books will help my students have access to many age and grade level appropriate books that will be adapted to include their communication symbols. By including symbols in the books, pre-readers will be able read more independently. The adapted books will be housed in the media center, and our students will be able to check them out, just like their peers. Giving students the opportunity to access books adapted to their needs will encourage and foster a love for reading, as well as support generalization of language development.
