We (the prek, kindergarten and first grade teachers) love to see our students be successful! Learning how to draw and write is such a huge part of beginning learning. As we look at the areas where our students struggle the most, we return again and again to this area of writing. More specifically, we see that our students do not have the fine motor skills to properly hold or operate a pencil. We feel like fine motor kits could be the key to our future success! If we can give fine motor kits to the students registering for kindergarten, they can practice working those important hand muscles all summer! What does a fine motor kit look like? We would include hole punchers and shapes, tweezers and pom-poms, playdoh and scissors. All of these activities help work the muscles that are required for holding and using a writing utensil. Thank you so much for considering our project!
