There are two basic components to this project: computer accessories and more flexible seating arrangements. My students are just embarking on their technological journey since in third grade they will need to start taking standardized online testing at the end of the school year. We have one-to-one access to Chromebooks at our school, thanks to previous grants, but that was only able to cover the computers themselves. To optimize their learning and provide a more effective learning experience, our students need headphones with microphones and computer mice. My ESL students use a program that necessitates them recording their speech to evaluate their proficiency but we don't have the necessary equipment. Also, using trackpads for math work is quite difficult for such young learners, and being able to use computer mice would allow them to perform their required tasks much easier. They could also benefit from more flexible seating options in the classroom. Some of my students have a lot of energy that results in increased needs for fidgeting and moving their bodies while being focused on school work, especially when they are required to sit during their activities. While using flexible seating options, my students would be able to use their kinetic energy without disrupting the learning environment and would remained engaged in their activities more effectively.
