Not all second grade students learn best with whole group instruction. Many need small group instruction and several still need one-on-one instruction. I strive to meet the needs of each and everyone of my amazing students because they deserve nothing but the best that I can give. My classroom would benefit from a kidney-shaped table to support struggling students. With the addition of the kidney shaped table, I will be able to meet with just a few students, with fewer distractions. I can listen to a few students read individually and ensure that they are reading at a second grade level. If they are not, I can teach specific skills and strategies to help them become better readers. Also, in a smaller setting, I can check a student's understanding of the math concepts that are being taught.
