Not only will the materials that I am requesting help my students develop a love for reading while sneakily planting social and emotional health-seeds but these texts will also teach sensory details, how the setting impacts a story, what exploded moments are and how they enhance the character, how to retell, summarize, compare and contrast and identify metaphors and similes and how this contributes to the story itself. I would love to share these stories with my students as a class because I know that not only would they build background knowledge and develop the skill to read and write well, they'd build moral character too.
