The materials for this project will help to support a school wide program bilingual program. Students in lower grades are required to checkout books in English and Spanish to use in their classroom activities. Because the bilingual books in our library are mostly aimed at upper grades students there is a lack of picture books, early readers and/or early chapter books for bilingual students. The goal of this project is to provide students more equitable access to bilingual books to support their classroom goals. Furthermore, a large percentage of my students speak Spanish at home, and giving them more options for their independent reading in their first language is very important for their development and self esteem. My early grade students are voracious readers anything you can do to support their learning, and love of reading, is greatly appreciated.
