Learning a language at the high school level has changed from verb charts and memorization. The focus now is language acquisition through a style of teaching that mimics how we learn our first language. I'm new to this style of teaching and am really embracing it as the results speak for themselves. The students are engaged, they are uninhibited and are confident in their abilities. I have a wonderful curriculum that I'm using that would be even more effective with a set of novels that we could read together and a library from which students could select books that are at their level and appeal to their interests. I chose El Capibara En Botas as our first class read-aloud novel because of the reviews that Spanish teachers across the United States have been giving it. It is said to appeal to students of all ages, cute, with a good message. This particular book is used by the creator of the curriculum that I use along The books I've selected for my students' free-reading library come from a compilation of books put together by the creator of the curriculum I use in collaboration with another well-known Spanish teacher of comprehensible input. Thank you so much for considering my request. This gift will provide me with some of the best tools to motivate and foster the learning of my present and future students for years to come.
