In teaching sixth grade, I've become aware of just how difficult reading can be for some students. During small group instruction, we are given books that help them learn, but not necessarily books that make them want to read more on their own. A love of reading is what leads to a well-rounded student and sets up the basis of how they will perform in school as a whole. Without a want to read, students' will suffer in many academic areas, as well as miss out on many stories that we all know and love. Because I teach such a diverse group of students, I am trying my best to pick out books that will appeal to a larger group of them. I have very diverse classes that include ESL (English as a second language) students as well as students who are apart of the special education program. These students do not always have a fair chance at reading due to their extra needs or limitations. My goal with this project is to ensure each and every student has a book that they're interested in reaching for. Through your donation, I will be able to do that. Thank you for your consideration.
