The materials that I am requesting for my students will help them capitalize on the way that they learn best - visually! My students will have an opportunity to be the 'STAR' of the show demonstrating skills that they have mastered to help their peers learn these same skills. They will also have the opportunity to view, and review, skills of their own that require growth. Video modeling has a proven efficacy for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders focusing on using visually cued instruction restricting the field of focus so as not to impose too much demand on social attention or interaction. My students will be active participants learning a variety of social skills such as peers interactions, evacuating during a fire drill and getting in the lunch line to name a few. They will be able to participate in everyday school activities just as the peers they attend school giving them the opportunity to engage in a world where they are often judged for being different.
