As a reading teacher I model reading and my thinking process. I use highlighters and different colored pens to identify different elements of what we read. My students sometimes struggle following dialogue within stories and I teach them to highlight each character with a different color. We use highlighter strategies for multiple genres and apply different strategies to each. My students enjoy using highlighters and feel accomplished when they know exactly what they should be highlighting. We also annotate as we read and multi-color pens would be very useful in differentiating our notes. I've personally bought highlighter sets for my class but they have run their course and it would be amazing if each student had the same color for each With these supplies you would be helping my students achieve their academic goals by improving their reading comprehension.
