When a student cannot use their voice to express themselves, they need an alternative way to express themselves. Here at C., we have three Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) classrooms and a number of our students have limited speech. I am hoping to help these students find their voice and exercise it quicker by fundraising for an AAC loan library. This AAC loan library we hope to build would consist of an assortment of augmentative devices and assistive technology available for students to trial in order to develop more robust communication systems and to make activities more accessible. For example, an iPad with a communication app may allow a student to say “hi” to a peer , request something they love or even to comment on an activity!) Everyone deserves a voice and to have that voice, be heard!
