Our school recently adapted a new guided reading structure. Students work to build understanding of comprehension skills that they may lack. During these sessions, in groups of no more than 4 students, the children discuss how the strategy taught could apply to their text. Often students say I could not find a book to use and providing them with titles that are interesting and modern I feel would make a difference and promote discussion amongst my students. We also spend time on a read-aloud for the children to just enjoy reading and the book titles chosen could really hook them!
