My project will fund the creation of a calming corner, that includes fidgets, stress balls, and kinetic sand. My hope is to create a safe space for students to de-escalate and self regulate. My creation of a 'Calming Corner' is a tool for teaching my students to build emotional awareness/self regulation, where they build an awareness of their emotions and practice/advocate for a break or a need to deescalate. These materials will support with my student's social emotional learning in the classroom. My hope is to teach my students positive coping skills that can transcend outside of just the school setting and into their real lives, and create emotionally intelligent young persons.
