These books will give my students the opportunity to experience and learn from good literature. My students do not come from print rich environments, and many have never read a book from cover to cover. Finances at our school do not include the purchase of real, hold in your hand, books. Giving my students a book to read is providing them with the opportunity to use their imaginations to experience life beyond their school and neighborhood while learning the reading skills they will need in their future. Incorporating a novel into my Reading classroom will promote critical thinking and student discussions while providing an opportunity for students to travel alongside the protagonist, through the plot, in settings they may never experience. My students beg to be read to each day, and my goal is to nurture their passion for reading and support them on their path to become lifelong readers.
