Seven years ago, the high school’s library was purged of old and neglected books. Some of the books were ten to twenty years old, falling apart or had not been checked out in five years. After the purge, the shelves were left empty and unorganized. During that same time, budget restraints put a strain on updating the library and no new books were ordered. Recently, I have reorganized the library by genre in hoping to bring a fresh new look and was able add some new books, but the students are still asking for more. Some students have never even stepped into the library, so the English/Language/Arts (ELA) teachers have brought their class in to see the new books and the updated look. With this donation, my students will be able to enjoy a wider variety of books. I hope it will open the door to their imaginations, their hearts and their minds. My goal is to have students reading books that are engaging, powerful and diversified.
