These books will help enhance the shared reading experience of my students. Shared reading gives students an opportunity to build fluency and reading confidences through coral, echo, and partner reading. Students ask and answer questions about the book and discuss the events in the story. They reflect upon the setting, plot, and characters during discussion circles and personal journal response entries. The shared reading experience puts real books in the students hands that can entertain and inspire their minds. In a time of tables, Smartboards, and computer screens, students need more opportunities to have an actual book in their hands. Over the past two years, my students have had the chance to read The Paint Brush Kid, the second story in this series, and they all loved it! Unfortunately, my school didn't have the first book, and with that, the chance to develop a deeper understand of the main character's artistic talents. These new books will give my students a chance to build a deeper relationship with the story's characters and inspire them to become immersed in great series and its characters!
