For a student to qualify for free-reduced lunch status, his or her family of three has to have less than $470 to rely upon for rent, car note, insurance, food, clothing and... school supplies. Guess what falls through the trap? School supplies! This is why I'm kindly soliciting you, Donor, and asking you to please provide the classroom essentials that will help my students get ready for class: binders, glue, pencil, pens, pencil case, paper, scissors and a backpack for the most disadvantaged of our students. These supplies are called essential because without them, students do not have a chance to succeed. When you scurry around to borrow a pencil, a pen or a piece of paper, how can you focus on the material? The supplies that I requested will be given to students in greatest need. Paul, my colleague counselor and I will store these in a closet and hand them to students in need. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
