These art supplies will allow my students to expand their artistic experience to include clay and pottery work (part of the state standards in art education). I strive to in my classroom to provide opportunities for my students to explore many types of art and art media, hoping that they will find something in the art-related world with which that they can connect. I believe that art education is extremely valuable for educational success in general. The experiences and tools that they gain in art is transferable to their base curriculum and may help students who struggle in their core subjects learn to use alternate learning techniques. We know as educators that all students learn differently and this is yet another avenue in which students can develop their own learning styles. Pottery and clay for younger students is extremely helpful in developing dexterity and fine motor skills. It will also help with problem solving skills. This clay, aprons, and tools will allow me to let students explore the world of clay. Lower primary classes will be introduced to some basic clay techniques of coil and pinch pots while upper primary grades will make more intricate models with greater freedom of choice in their projects. We will learn techniques such as scoring, using slip, and slab construction. All students will have the opportunity to paint their creations and will take their work home.
