For those of you that do not know, I teach and coach in a very small, rural town in South Carolina. We are a Title 1 school so funding is often limited. For most of these students, baseball has never been an option for them. The community they live in only offers football and basketball at the recreational level. The first time these students get an opportunity to play baseball is in the 8th grade. Baseball is a great sport to play, because it can help students that play other sports with hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and catching. During my interest meeting, I had 36 students say they wanted to play baseball. This showed me that students wanted to learn this great game and have a chance to be a part of something special. The budget for baseball only allowed me to get a few minor things for the program, but we are in desperate need of more. Last season, the students were using a rusted, dented bat, and the catcher had to use his regular glove. If you've ever caught a fastball before, you know how necessary it is to have the proper glove! The equipment I have listed will help make our athletes safer on the field while also teaching them how the equipment should be used. With your help, I look forward to giving these students everything they need to succeed on the baseball field. The school, my players and I thank you in advance for your support of the baseball program. Go Eagles!
