I am blessed to work in a school with great cultural diversity. Our school body is made up of a diverse population of Black, White, Asian and Latinx students. This multicultural makeup, together with how our faculty and students acknowledge, appreciate and celebrate our diversity, has become my favorite part of our school. I hope to add books to my classroom library that reflect the many cultures, languages and ethnic backgrounds present throughout our school. These books will not only be used to teach crucial reading comprehension standards, but most importantly feature characters representative of the students and cultures present in my classroom. When listening to read alouds or reading independently, students should be able to connect with the characters and see themselves in the story. I believe this, along with many other factors, will instill a love of reading in my students.
