My students have read every single Pete the Cat book from front cover to back cover. They can recite every line and describe every illustration, as I'm sure many early childhood teachers and parents out there can do as well. Going to the Nashville Children's Theatre to see their rendition of "Pete the Cat" will give my students the experience of seeing their favorite character on stage, which will breathe new life into the story for them. Being able to make the connection between the page and the stage is so unique and I am so excited that this opportunity has presented itself. They'll be able to interact during this stage retelling, which will allow my students to recount details from the books they've read themselves. It will also allow them to have a true theatre experience of sitting in the seats, watching the lights dim, the curtains draw, and being fully immersed in a form of entertainment that unfortunately isn't always affordable to public school children. I look forward to hearing the thoughts and connections they make between the text and the play, as well as their excitement about the entire experience.
