In March, our school district is hosting an author event, in which students will get to meet authors of some new and popular young adult novels. The novel Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky is about a young man of color who goes on an epic quest, full of African American folk heroes and West African gods (according to Amazon). The goal of this project is to get our Young Men of Progress their very own copies of this book, get them to read it, engage with it, and then meet the author. How amazing would it be for each of those young men to have their very own author-signed copy of a book that they've read, truly engaged with, and are invested in?

About my class
