I am looking to have a 3D printer to use in my classroom so that my students can have tactile models of the things we learn about in class. Image explaining to a student the different parts of a cell while they are holding them in their hands, or describing the different organ systems in the human body as they place scale size models together on their own, or piecing together all of the different parts of a double helix as they make their own model of DNA at their table.
With access to a 3D printer in class, students can not only learn about science, but they will be able to experience it! The cost of models for all of the topics that we cover in my classes would be far too great for my school to afford, but with 3D printing becoming a more readily available option that is far cheaper than store-bought alternatives, it makes for an affordable option that I can use to give my students the hands-on experiences that they deserve at a price that my smaller program can manage.
