I have been teaching for 2 years, I work with the students who have the most severe disabilities and need. There's no set curriculum for my students because each of their needs is so very different. Since most of them have severe cognitive delays, everything has to be modified in a way that is accessible and useful to them. I use a lot of books to develop lessons for my students, especially those with simple sentences and pictures. Most of my classroom books have been purchased by myself, either at the school book fair or at the local Goodwill or have been given to me by friends and co-workers cleaning out their closets. I would love for my students to come back to school this fall to a reading area with an entirely new set of books.
