It has been difficult to bring the right balance of academic rigor, inspiration and relativity into my AP Literature class. I know my students will love these two novels. These are not the same old boring novels that are typically taught in AP Literature. My students need something fresh as they contend with remote learning. Both of these novels are just that. The themes are relevant and familiar, yet they will make my students think outside of the box while allowing them to grapple with their beliefs about their place our present society. Both novels have a way of looking at the past and present at the same time. Also, by giving them two new novels, one science fiction and one of magical realism will help to round out the classical curriculum already planned for the semester for AP Literature.
