These materials will make a difference in my students' learning by helping my students on a daily basis with their visual learning needs and their sensory needs. Many of my students excel with the use of sensory tools and visual manipulatives during the day to help with lessons and sensory overload. Many of them need help with self-regulating, and having the right tools for each kid helps them be even more successful in having a positive way to move on with their day when they get stuck. Visual tools and manipulatives will be used during their math and literacy lessons while helping with sensory needs that come up. Math manipulatives are beneficial because students can touch them and manipulate them with their hands to solve math problems they may be having trouble with. Visual tools like the alphabet and words can be used to spell words and write out sentences. Sensory tools help my students who may need to move their bodies or their hands while learning. Sensory tools can also help them when their bodies are in sensory overload and when they need something to help them self-regulate. Fidgets help with hands that need to move, and different sensors in their fingers need manipulation in order to focus their bodies and brains. Wobble stools help them move their bodies while still focusing on the work in front of them. Weighted items (weighted lap pads, shoulder pads and blankets) help when their senses are heightened, and they need help self-regulating in order to continue to be successful in their day.
