The Choices Magazine that I chose for my class, gives the students the opportunity to see relevant current articles on issues that impact them. The magazine covers relatable articles on topics such as social media, mental health, and relationship skills to name a few. Choices is a monthly magazine that will be incorporated into the social skills curriculum. I will use the Anxiety Workbook for Teens in my self-management unit when we cover how to manage emotions such as anxiety. I currently have over 50% of the students in my social skill classes that suffer from anxiety. It is challenging to find a curriculum specific to teens on this topic. I have chosen the Relationship Skills 101 for Teens book to supplement my relationship skills unit. All of the students in my social skill classes have been identified as having special education needs in the area of social skills, specifically relationship skills and managing their emotions. This book would supplement my current curriculum which focuses on communication styles, understanding conflict, communication skills, and teamwork. I currently use the Top 20 Teens book in my social skills class, but I don't have enough copies for each student. The book does a great job teaching students self-awareness skills, communication skills and how to be successful in school.
