Aloha! My middle school students will use these Chromebooks during their regular math classes, math workshop classes and advisory. It will allow students access to math text book that will be customized and created by me. It will also allow students the ability to use different programs to increase fluency and mastery of the learning outcomes. My self-created resources and well as strategically curated resources will live in online for my students to access in class and outside of class. The use of technologies is something students are hungry for in my class. It will not replace the pencil and paper problem solving that they already do but enhance it by giving them other mediums to view and practice. Additionally, I will introduce different mathematical based careers such as coding, finance and entrepreneurship. Students will engage in real-world projects such a budgeting and starting a small business. Living on an island has limited some students to have never left their neighborhood. In my math class, students will go on digital field trips around the world learning how math is relevant in all aspects of life and what they will do with it in the future. Finally, I will use the computers to introduce a culturally responsive math program developed by the University of Hawaii group called STEMD. I have ambitious goals for my students and these Chromebooks will allow us to do a great many more things than we currently can. Technology is not the future, technology is today! Please consider donating to my project to get my Hawaii-based students into the technology era!
