The lab coats purchased will be part of the students' costumes during our Mad Scientist Room Transformation Day. Imagine fifth graders walking into their classroom to be surprised by lab coats, name tags with their names and pictures, and safety goggles to dress the part of a "mad scientist." The room will be decorated with hazardous waste balloons, caution tape, and mystery beakers. Students will solve puzzles during the lessons to get the coordinates to a mystery box, as well as keys to open the box once it is found at the end of the day.
The Mad Scientist Room Transformation Day will improve student engagement through creating a day long themed classroom space and lessons that lend to authentic learning experiences for students. Lessons throughout the day will be directly correlated with the Standards of Learning in each subject. Students will use technology and children's engineering skills throughout the day to play the part of a "mad scientist." What better way to engage students and learn while having fun?
