I am an eighth grade math teacher. Students in my classroom are often encouraged to support their ideas and answer choices. Often time in this process, students come to the realization that their initial claim, answer choice, or idea is not backed by evidence. Mistakes happen, a lot, and that’s okay! This mindset is an important part in my lessons. Students in my classroom require dry erase boards and paper to jot down ideas and pencils to erase them. They strive on the visual and written aspect of their work and learn how to support their mathematical thinking through the process of getting things wrong.
