We begin each day with our literacy block, which includes grammar, reading, and writing. Being able to incorporate a listening center can provide enrichment for students who finish tasks on time, as well as support for students who need a little extra boost with their reading and fluency skills. A listening center will provide all students the opportunity to explore new genres, challenge themselves, practice reading fluency, and develop an understanding of what it is good readers do. I was gifted a listening center library several months ago, but currently do not have the necessary equipment to use it with my students. I have not shared this information with my students yet, as I did not want to get their hopes up. Having what we need to implement this center would be absolutely incredible, and I know my kiddos would LOVE it!
