Our class's reading workshop is built around balanced literacy. We start reading out with an interactive read-aloud and then go over a mini-lesson where students learn a specific skill to use in their independent or partner reading. After the mini-lesson students spend the remaining time reading independently, with a partner, or in a book club group. This project will provide my second grade students with high-quality, non-fiction books to enhance their knowledge on space, sea animals, and other non fiction topics. I chose these specific books based on a survey I gave to my students on what they wanted to be reading about. If this project gets funded I know for a fact my students will be super excited about reading non-fiction!
