The materials for this project will help my students better understand the characteristics of a bridge. By using the information learned through researching bridge structures and weight distribution, the students will gain hands-on experience constructing and testing their designs. Seeing the bridges students create themselves and exploring how effectively each met the design challenge will teach more than just reading about the information. By having enough materials for each student or groups of 2 to 3, student choice is fostered. This creates buy-in and ownership within the learning of this engineering concept. The end-goal of this project and the engineering exploratory is that students gain an appreciation for and an interest in engineering and the various careers this field offers.
