If we want the best from our students, we have to give them what they need. I often think about my own preferences when I have to get a task accomplished. I like to choose a spot that will be comfortable for me to complete my work in. My students are no different. I want my classroom to be a comfortable place for all of my learners. Each of them has a different idea of comfort. Some like to sit on the floor to work so the sensory cushions will be great for them. Other students prefer to work with a clipboard and the collapsible chairs will make this easier for them. I have many students that need to move while they work so the yoga ball seats will allow them to move while they think without distracting other learners. The same is true for those who would use the wobble stools. This project will allow me to give my students the choice and flexibility they desire and deserve. Research has shown that focus, engagement, and stamina improve when students are comfortable. This is not just beneficial to those students with special needs, it is beneficial to ALL students.
