Once a week, my students cook a meal as a part of their individual living class. This gives them an opportunity to learn multiple things at once, including reading, measuring, temperature, time, and other things. These special needs students love to cook and it really brings out their personalities when they are in the kitchen. The students also make food for the staff at our school to help raise money for cooking activities and field trips that grow their learning about the community and teach them how to be model citizens. A new refrigerator would help them to be able to continue their education and grow their independent living skills.
