Help me give my students a device that will help them communicate and be successful in the classroom by translating what they say in their language to English and translate classroom work through the google translate app/camera and by using apps that reinforce reading, math, phonics, and English. Technology is something that would help them increase their communication with teachers/peers through google translate. My students are so eager to learn English and communicate. They come to America to have a better life and education. Since our school has a poverty rate of 50% or more, many of my students do not have access to this type of technology at home. Without the use of google translate it is very difficult to communicate with these students and teach them in a regular classroom. It is very time consuming to type up all of the work we are doing in the classroom and translate it through Google docs. The iPad allows me to take pictures of their textbook pages, worksheets, and books they are reading and translate them instantly. This will allow them some independence in the classroom by translating their own work and not relying on the teacher or their peers to try and explain it in a way that they can understand.
