Due to the new drive towards Growing Readers through the use of mandatory "Independent Reading Time," I have found that being able to provide my students with a "special" area in which to drift away into their own worlds is very important. This product that I have selected will help my students by giving them an opportunity to move away from the mundane routines of sitting at their desks and doing their work. They will actually be able to look forward to Independent Reading time because they will be able to do something different by getting away from the confines of their desks. Also, this product is geared toward my ELL students who, in some cases, don't speak English. Having a nice visual right at their feet, will help acclimate them to the various concepts within the class room. Not only can the carpet be used for Independent Reading time, but it will also provide a space for whole group reading as well as the various small group activities for Math and Reading. The students can gather around the teacher during whole group reading for an exciting read aloud, or, during small group Math and Reading, instead of having to sit on the cold, hard floor, they can relax and be productive on a nice comfy carpet.
