I am and ELA (English Language Arts) teacher working for a district that is paperless. Half of my job with the students is teaching them to be writers (the other half, readers). The most beneficial tool in ELA is modeling, when it comes to reading and writing. A document camera would assist and cut down the time that it takes for me to show student work as an example to others in the classroom. For New York State testing and district testing, students are required to write short and extended responses that exhibit their comprehension of literature and nonfiction. We do lots of practice with this type of writing in my class, in addition to genre writing. With this document camera, I would be able to grab students notebooks and display them on the screen in order to help my students see exemplar works done by their classmates. This in turn, would show them what is necessary to receive the required scores. In addition to the document cameras benefits in writing, it would also serve as a great tool for Reading, allowing all students to see a read aloud book and take note of the Author's Craft with access to the words that I am reading on the page. The benefits of this product are invaluable and would allow my students to excel in Reading and Writing lessons, giving everyone equitable access to the material.
