Students will better able learn and engage with the material as they make products (posters, maps, foldables, presentations) that SHOW what they learned rather than having students show their learning with a multiple choice test.
Students will use creativity. This will keep students engaged with their learning and be a more authentic way to assess them.
This allows less teacher driven learning and more student driven learning.
Specifically, projects will be visual and students will have a choice regarding what they focus on and what they present. Projects will be used to assess their learning so that they are not "tested to death." I hope to keep the struggling students in class working because they are getting a chance to chose what they focus on to show what they have learned. This give students both voice and choice. Students will use the supplies to create posters, maps, foldable, and visual presentations. These will be used to access student learning instead of paper and pencil test.
