These materials will teach our students the skills they will need to live successfully on their own. The toaster oven is going teach them how to cook for themselves. We will practice language arts by reading the recipe. We will be able to practice our math by measuring ingredients and setting a timer and practice science by talking about the reactions that happen during cooking. We have to clean up our messes and the vacuum and the dish rack will teach them how to be responsible. Practicing life skills in a structured classroom environment will give my unique students the best chance to be successful at life. My students are so proud of themselves when they are able to accomplish any skill. Providing them with this knowledge will allow them to help at home and have their parents proud of them as well. They need to know they are more than what their diagnosis says- they are a capable person who CAN do things.
