With a lack of available science materials in the classroom, the National Geographic Animal Encyclopedia will be a tremendous boost as a science resource. Students will be able to use this encyclopedia as they continue to practice the AVID strategy of taking notes. As adults, we know that to keep students engaged, motivated and collaborating with peers, they need to buy into the learning process. Talking about buying; I spend "out-of-pocket" monies to provide soil, seeds, pencils, plastic containers and books for my students. I do this so that my students have the materials available to do the "fun" stuff.
