Having scientific calculators to use in Pre-Algebra and Algebra is so important in so many ways. Firstly, it opens the doors to working through curriculum that we may not get to fully experience with just the basic four operation calculators that we currently have. Included in our state standards for 8th grade are topics like exponents, square roots, and the Pythagorean theorem, which are much more efficiently learned and practiced with scientific calculators. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase students' speed in calculations, but you will open the door to a much deeper dive into some very foundational standards that will continue to be of importance throughout high school. Secondly, having scientific calculators for my students also means that they will hopefully become comfortable using a piece of technology that they will undoubtedly come into contact with in high school and post secondary situations, therefore setting them up for success.
