Keeping my students from losing momentum in their learning process is key in helping them succeed. It is hard to keep students focused in a world that is constantly attempting to distract them, and it is especially difficult to keep their momentum when they lack access to the materials needed to help them succeed. Our school struggles to maintain enough copies for students to use in the classroom, and teachers often cannot part with books for my students to utilize outside of class. This project will provide my students with books that they will be able to use outside of the English classroom in order to reread, complete learning tasks, and build their skills. If preparation is the key to success, having critical classroom tools can make all the difference. Something as simple as access to a book can give students the confidence and focus they need for success in the classroom. My students will prosper in their learning if they are able to spend time in my Resource class reviewing the novels they are reading in English. Having a book at their disposal will also allow them to spend time completing their classwork and extending their thinking about the text. Being able to have this extra time will empower them within the classroom because they will be better prepared to discuss the texts with their peers and teachers. When these students are armed with knowledge, they are ready to tackle anything. I know that providing them the means to able to read will assist them in feeling accomplished.
