Discovering the Harry Potter series elementary school locked me in to a lifetime of reading. Escaping from my everyday surroundings and entering Harry's magical world brought me comfort, and led me to wonder many things about my world. As first year teacher, I want to share the magic of reading with my students, and have resources that allow them to "escape" into new realms. Having access to a number high interest books in my classroom library will greatly motivate my students to engage themselves in reading, and help to build reading stamina during their language arts block. With access to books in a popular series, such as "Plants vs. Zombies," my students will be able to find enjoyment in a specific story-line, that will serve as a stepping stone to new books. They will also use these books as part of their core reading for our district's new reading program and to participate in book talks. My students have already shown interest in some of the requested books, and I look forward to having more books available that pique their interest and help them to grow as readers.
