Hi, my name is Ariel Parada, and I am a high school English teacher embarking on my third year at my old high school. This past year has been incredibly challenging for students in school due to the pandemic of COVID-19. Now, for many of my incoming students, it will be their first year returning to in-person schooling post a pandemic. As many of us know, education and schools are not always properly funded, especially for populations like those I work for. I am seeking support in obtaining brand new books for these incoming students to feel cared for and appreciated for their return to school. I am seeking Malcolm X: Graphic Biography, Motorcycle Diaries: Notes on Latin America, One day of Life. Malcolm X: Graphic Biography (I chose this one because Malcolm X’s story is one of growth and transformation. I believe students will gain a sense of what it takes to grow and become the person one is meant to be) Motorcycle Diaries: Notes on Latin America ( I chose this one because it is a story of conconcientizacion, the process of becoming aware of ones surrounding, and the role we play in injustice and liberation.) One day of Life ( I choose this book because it is a story of war and resistance. It will show students that we can all resist oppression, that their existence within itself is an act of resistance.) 
I am a teacher that lived and was raised in the community I teach in. For that reason, new books might seem like a small gesture but can go a long way in showing young people that they are worthy of having new things and worthy of reading stories that reflect their backgrounds. Thank you
