My classroom incorporates inclusion to the MAX! Our philosophy is to promote play and learn lifelong skills for students of all abilities. I teach students about differing abilities, ex. cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, cognitive abilities, emotional abilities. Within that context, students are able to perform the activity, in this case biking, through the lens of a student athlete that may have one of these significant abilities As a class, we incorporate everyone's abilities into the classroom to make sure that everyone is able to participate. This includes modifying equipment to provide opportunities for everyone to have the same experience. In addition, I teach an Adapted PE class that fosters peer mentoring students of all abilities. My 7th & 8th grade students help teach these biking skills to one of their peer partners. With your donation this will make it possible for students to assimilate our biking activity through the perspective of a student athlete who could be participating in the Paralympics and Special Olympics.
