Strong speaking and listening skills are crucial in every aspect of life. In order to be successful, one must strengthen these skills in order to be ready for college and career. These skills are beneficial not only in the education/working environment but in everyday relationships as well. Therefore, it is important that students develop in these areas as they move through their school years. My students are more engaged when they are having fun while learning. Materials like the headphones I am asking for help in making this possible. Many of my students are either English Learners or have recently been reclassified as fluent in the English language. Therefore, it is imperative that they continue practicing their speaking and listening skills. One way to do this, is through an engaging application called FlipGrid. This site allows students to record answers to questions, listen and correct their own recording, and listen to their classmates' recording. This provides them practice not only in speaking clearly and fluently for an authentic audience but also the chance to listen to key information their peers are presenting. My students love these types of activities. The main difficulty is that I will often have 20 - 30 students attempting to record themselves speaking in the classroom at the same time. This situation can make it extremely difficult to hear what students are saying through the background noise that the Chromebook detect. That is where these noise canceling headphones would be beneficial. These headphones would allow my students to record at the same time without picking up the noise of neighboring classmates. When my students attempt to listen to the playback of their recordings or listen to their classmates, these headphones/microphone would provide a clear recording. This would provide the opportunity to continuously develop these crucial skills.
