My students have had very limited access to working within groups on a project during COVID-19. They need more opportunities to work together and solve problems, learn to communicate their thinking, and get others involved in deeper thinking. Through the STEM activities, they get to do all these activities to help out their favorite characters in books. They will also be able to see how books compare to the real world and how their learning will help them solve problems in their own lives. Kids are naturally curious about the world around them. Having good books that will help to answer their questions about phenomenon around them, they will be able to think a little deeper, stay curious, and learn how to use their knowledge to solve problems that they encounter. Great classroom discussions come from books. These discussions help connect the students to the subject matter, to each other, and get them realizing they can solve problems by working as teams instead of just alone.
