Children will build their language, fine motor, and eye-hand coordination skills and exercise their imagination while while engaging in art projects outdoors. I set up a big table as free art and children can choose from variety of art and craft materials which I ordered to create their individual or group project. When we have easel board children will be more encouraged to participate, express their ideas with colors and paint materials they use.
Children are able to express their ideas, feelings and emotions as they paint; they also develop a sense of pride when they have completed a project and share it with their peers. By having art outdoors children are free to move and immerse themselves in their art without time or space restraints. Children will also improve their social and problem solving skills while picking their own materials to create a collage and take pride of their accomplishments.
I would ask open-ended questions, encourage them to talk about their project and materials they used with other peers at the table. As they create pictures they are learning about becoming an illustrator, and as teachers take dictation of their words they are being exposed to what it means to be an author. Our kids will truly appreciate your support as we enhance the art area.
